While I’m not much of an apps guy, personally, I do appreciate the creativity of developers who come up with such clever designs (my latest favorite is the virtual Bic lighter designed to summons an encore from your favorite rock band.)
A screenshot from when Crestron and iKamasutra shared the spotlight in the Apple iPhone apps store.
So, it was cool to learn that Crestron’s Mobile Pro App for iPhone recently reached #6 in top-grossing iPhone apps (the only industry app in the Lifestyle Category’s Top 30, according to Crestron).
Can you believe it? Our little-old industry found a way to crack into the mainstream, landing next to such obvious favorites as Wine Ratings Guide, Craigslight Pro, and iKamasutra. Yes, that’s right. Crestron’s right there with the sex apps.
What’s even more amusing to me is how a snapshot of the top Lifestyle Apps for the iPhone tell the story of the human condition in 30 little web icons. There are the sex apps like iKamasutra, Sex Positions, and 69 Position, there’s the food and wine sites like Hamburger, How to Cook Everthing, and Weber’s On The Grill, and then balancing it all out is PrayHow, DreamBook, and 12 Steps AA Companion. The dichotomy of life (at least the American Life).
According to Crestron, its control app for iPhone enables a fully customizable graphical interface, and is often designed to match the look and functionality of the touchpanel and iPad interfaces that are also part of an installation. Multiple locations such as a primary residence, vacation home and office may be remotely controlled from a single iPhone.
The Crestron control app for the iPhone was localized in French and Chinese and featured in 30-second ads for the new iPhone 3GS. Crestron Mobile Pro is the only control app that works on the latest 3G technology, for true mobile control anywhere on the cellular network. It is also available via local Wi-Fi.
