Procella Audio Introduces Integrated AV Platform for LED Home Cinema

IMMERSIO integrates cinema-grade sound with LED visuals.

The Procella Audio IMMERSIO platform unites high-performance cinema audio design with advanced LED video technology in a single integrated solution. By positioning cinema-grade loudspeakers above a bright, emissive LED screen, IMMERSIO preserves both pristine visual fidelity and optimal sound quality, effectively solving the challenge of audio for non-perforated LED cinema displays.

At the core of IMMERSIO is a state-of-the-art LED cinema screen that delivers vibrant, high-contrast images. LED screens generate light directly and need no perforations, so they exhibit none of the light loss or moiré pattern distortions that perforated projection screens can introduce. The result is razor-sharp, bright visuals with uniform brightness and deep contrast, even when viewed from up close. Crucially, by moving speakers above the screen (instead of behind it), Procella’s design preserves the display’s full visual fidelity.

The IMMERSIO LED panels themselves are built to cinema-grade specifications. Fine pixel pitches down to 0.7 mm enable 4K resolution (~3840 × 1800 pixels) on screen sizes ranging from roughly 3.0 × 1.4 m up to 4.8 × 2.4 m (approximately 130 inches to over 210 inches diagonal, at ~2.2:1 aspect ratio). These LED walls output up to 800 nits of brightness and run at a 3840 Hz refresh rate, ensuring a vivid, flicker-free picture even with HDR content. They also boast a long 100,000-hour lifetime and wide color gamut coverage (about 95% of Rec.709 and 90% of DCI-P3).

IMMERSIO integrates Procella’s cinema-grade loudspeaker engineering tailored for above-screen placement. Instead of traditional behind-screen speakers, the front channels are mounted along the top of the LED wall, using custom loudspeakers explicitly designed for this role. Each speaker features constant-directivity waveguides and high-power drivers, which deliver clear, high-SPL output with a wide, symmetrical coverage pattern. The speakers are engineered to handle the demands of both small screening rooms and large auditoriums, maintaining midrange clarity and headroom at reference sound pressure levels. Thanks to Procella’s low-distortion, closed-box designs, dialog and soundtrack details remain intelligible and free of distortion.

Mounting the loudspeakers above a non-perforated screen avoids the acoustic compromises that come with projecting sound through a perforated surface. With no screen material in front of the speakers, there are no frequency response irregularities or resonances caused by perforation interactions. The direct sound travels unimpeded into the auditorium, resulting in a more natural and uncolored tonal balance. IMMERSIO’s above-screen placement also achieves uniform coverage: the design produces more consistent sound pressure levels across the audience area, so that every listener experiences nearly the same volume and fidelity, with minimal variation between seats.

Despite the speakers being positioned above the picture, extensive listening tests have confirmed that this slight vertical offset of the sound source is imperceptible to viewers.

By eliminating the need for an acoustically perforated screen (and the behind-screen speaker enclosures such screens require), an above-screen speaker configuration simplifies the installation process. There is no longer a need to build baffle walls or accommodate large speakers in the limited space directly behind the screen, freeing up volume in the auditorium and reducing system complexity. The loudspeaker arrays can be securely suspended above the LED display using rigging methods well established in the pro audio and live sound world. This approach not only saves space but also streamlines alignment and calibration, since the audio and video components are integrated into a unified structure.

Acoustically, Procella has carefully optimized the above-screen placement to minimize any drawbacks and even turn some into advantages. Mounting the speakers near the ceiling can reduce certain early reflections compared to more traditional layouts. By angling and positioning the loudspeakers precisely, IMMERSIO avoids problematic ceiling bounce and mitigates potential boundary interference from the ceiling itself. The system’s design ensures a smooth frequency response at the listening positions, with comb-filtering artifacts kept to a minimum. Procella’s engineering addresses the acoustic interaction of the loudspeaker and room boundaries, maintaining a uniform tonal response throughout the venue.
