Cleerline Introduces Serial-to-Fiber Converter for Extreme Environments

Durable IP40-rated housing enables the 2-piece RS-232/RS-485 serial-to-fiber converter to operate in extreme environments.

The Cleerline Technology Group has introduced the SSF-SERIAL-RUGGED, a 2-piece IP40 industrial rated converter that delivers critical serial-to-fiber and back conversion for extreme environments such as weather boxes, outdoor lockers, and other harsh locations. This new rugged converter enables integrators to provide the performance and durability of a fiber infrastructure while connecting to an array of commercial and residential devices for applications such as lighting, access control, automated pool covers, HVAC systems, and more.

“The Cleerline IP-40 rated Serial-to-Fiber converter is a go-to solution for us here at ResCom Electric and Integration because it’s durable, non-conductive, and allows us to install fiber that delivers massive bandwidth for the gates and remote lighting projects we design and install for our clients,” explains Rich Conklin, principal engineer at Michigan-based ResCom Electric. “We do commercial projects with numerous remote buildings as well as residential developments and luxury homes where communication to the gate could be a mile away —and Cleerline’s Serial-to-Fiber converter frees us from having to deploy costly additional processors — their fiber infrastructure and rugged IP-rated devices are an effective and reliable solution for us.”
