The Crestron TPMC-4SM, which just began shipping to dealers, is an ultra-thin, less-expensive PoE (Power over Ethernet) touchpanel that features single-wire connectivity and an assortment of mounting options.

Using standard Ethernet for power, control, and communication, the 4SM is designed to be installed on any surface quickly and easily, with no electrical outlets or control wire needed. It can offer flush wall-mount control in meeting rooms, classrooms, and corporate boardrooms, or serve as a bedside touchpanel for whole-house control and hotel guest rooms, with its 16×9 widescreen display, 16-bit color graphics, and support for streaming audio and video, two-way IP intercom, and WAV file feedback.

“The functionality in this compact, lower cost touchpanel is truly remarkable,” Crestron director of marketing Vin Bruno said. “The 4SM has a high-tech appearance and multiple installation options that make it perfect for virtually any application you can think of.”

Crestron envisions the TPMC-4SM a good control solution for retrofits and renovations, because it doesn’t require cutting holes in the walls. Mounting the 4SM, either flush or tilt, on glass surfaces or on concrete/brick walls is simple, safe, and reliable, according to the company. Standard wall and tabletop mounting options offer additional choices. Additionally, the 4SM fits on a single-gang electrical box or low-voltage ring.

The TPMC-4SM can communicate directly with Crestron RoomView software via LAN for enterprise-wide room scheduling without a control system. Meetings can be scheduled, rooms reserved, and room availability and meeting calendars viewed for any room on the network, right from the display. When mounted outside meeting rooms, the LEDs on both sides of the front panel indicate room status and can be seen from a distance, with backlit green meaning “available” and red indicating “occupied”.

“No shows” can be detected using directly connect occupancy sensors, so even if a meeting is not cancelled or rescheduled, RoomView will automatically update the network calendar to reflect the room status accurately. The built-in proximity sensor wakes up the panel as the user approaches for hands-free activation.

The TPMC-4SM can also deliver fully programmable functionality to access and leverage advanced Crestron control systems, and is available with button and no-button bezels, and in black or white.
