By RS Staff Published: September 8, 2015 ⋅ Updated: April 15, 2019 Definitive Technology has added the W Studio Micro to its Wireless Collection. Designed to deliver audiophile-grade home theater sound in an ultra-slim package, the W Studio Micro sound bar system stands at just 1.75 inches high to blend into a home theater environment. The W Studio Micro cabinet features a brushed, black-anodized aluminum top panel that encloses seven individual drivers, producing perfectly balanced home theater sound to fill any room. Part of Definitive Technology’s Wireless Collection of DTS Play-Fi connected speakers and products, the W Studio Micro can stream music in full fidelity anywhere in the home from any smartphone, tablet, or PC. Inspired by minimalist trends in home décor and TV design, the 3.1 wireless home theater sound bar and music streaming system boasts four three 1-inch mid-woofers with neodymium magnets and three 1-inch aluminum dome tweeters. The package also includes an 8-inch down-firing wireless subwoofer. Powering the drivers are seven discrete channels of amplification. “Staying true to Definitive Technology’s extensive experience developing audiophile-grade home theater speakers in the most compact form factors achievable, we meticulously designed the W Studio Micro with a clean aesthetic that easily integrates with nearly any modern TV, while also providing incredible sound for even the most discerning listeners,” said Joel Sietsema, director of brand management at Definitive Technology. “In our research, we learned it was incredibly difficult to find great performance in slim sound bars less than two inches in height, due to a lack of cabinet volume or a lack of advanced driver technologies. What our team has achieved acoustically, technically and in such a beautifully designed package, is truly remarkable.” Designed to decode Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS certified, the sound bar will interpret a 5.1 surround sound signal and deliver sound using the configuration of the seven drivers. In addition, a Music and Movie mode are supported. When in Music mode, the W Studio Micro supports a wider frequency response, while With Movie mode, the sound bar’s low-profile design supports a refined sound field with reduced diffraction and increased dispersion, adding more height and depth for a more immersive experience. For wireless music listening, consumers simply power up the sound bar, download the free Definitive Technology app, and connect the W Studio Micro to their home Wi-Fi network. Once connected, listeners can play music from popular services like Pandora, Spotify Connect and Sirius XM, thousands of Internet radio stations such as CNBC, NPR, and Fox News, and from personal libraries. As a component of the Wireless Collection, the W Studio Micro is also designed to fit in the whole-home, wireless music ecosystem and can be connected with other speakers using the open platform of DTS Play-Fi Technology.
