Just in time for the holidays, Essence has released a new power amp that some audiophiles are already calling the "killer app" of power amps.

Just in time for the holidays, Essence has released a new power amp that some audiophiles are already calling the “killer app” of power amps.

A view from the front and back of the DPA-440.

The Essence DPA-440 uses the latest Class D topology to provide a highly efficient and nearly ideal amplifier with distortion below measurement, ultra-high damping factor, and unconditional stability with any speaker.

The DPA-440 offers a minimum of 220W per channel @ 4 Ohms (Essence Electrostats are 4 ohm) with reserves of dynamic power at lower impedances. The DPA-440 is capable of up to 400 watts dynamic power per channel @ 2 ohms. It can effortlessly power any loudspeaker to live performance levels with amazing efficiency and low power consumption.

The DPA-440 features both Balanced XLR and Single-Ended RCA outputs, deluxe WBT Insulated 5-way binding posts, user adjustable gain controls, and is silent in operation because there’s no fan. Its compact size saves on material costs, reflected in the MSRP.

Essence CEO Bob Rapoport said, “The DPA-440 is made in the USA and sells for $1299 MSRP. With its specs and audible performance, I expect it to become the new benchmark in the amp category. Our comparison chart of today’s best Class D amps is informative, this new amp sounds huge and it sells for 1/3 the price of the competition.”

Available in black or silver, the DPA-440 is shipping now.
