Locking Down Source Switching and Wi-Fi in a Utah Theater Project

Tym Smart Homes & Home Theaters Installs Luxul Network Solutions for Improved Speed and Reliability for 4K Video Distribution System and Wi-Fi

Utah-based integrator Tym Smart Homes & Home Theaters has utilized the company’s products to provide reliable network switching and Wi-Fi throughout The Holladay Haven—a 12,000-square-foot luxury home in Holladay, UT—including its home theater, The Holladay Cinema.

Featuring a custom-built, 16-foot-wide projector screen to display 4K images from a range of sources, The Holladay Cinema includes a 4K video distribution system that not only allows the homeowners and guests to view movies and surveillance cameras on the home theater’s screen, but on any of the multitude of screens throughout the home.

“In projects of this size and scope, speed and reliability are key,” said Matt Montgomery, president of Tym. “Luxul products deliver both, whether they’re for source switching or providing Wi-Fi coverage. In addition, with their easy programming and PoE capability, the company’s switches eliminate the need for extra cables when incorporating devices like security cameras and wireless access points, contributing to a speedy and simple installation.”

For network switching to support The Holladay Haven’s video distribution system, Tym utilized Luxul’s 26-port AMS-2616P and AMS-2624 Gigabit managed switches, which feature 16 and 24 PoE+ ports, respectively. The units’ PoE+ ports allowed Tym to use standard Ethernet cables to deliver both power and high-speed data. Network routing functionality is provided by Luxul’s Epic 5 dual-WAN Gigabit router with built-in Domotz remote management and Router Limits content management technology.

In addition, Tym provided The Holladay Haven with complete Wi-Fi coverage. The home features four Luxul XAP-1510 wireless access points (WAPs), which combine high output power and leading-edge 802.11ac 3×3 dual-band technology with beamforming to deliver data rates up to 1900 Mbps and a XAP-1410 AC1200 dual-band WAP. With more than one WAP, Luxul’s XWC-1000 wireless controller with Roam AssistÔ technology was used to provide easy setup and centralized deployment.

“We are truly honored to have our solutions working behind the scenes at The Holladay Haven and its mind-blowing theater,” said Mike Grubb, vice president of marketing at Luxul. “With each project, Tym redefines what’s possible with home technology, and The Holladay Haven is truly a marvel, to which the 15,000 visitors who saw it during last year’s Salt Lake Parade of Homes can attest. We look forward to outfitting more homes like this in years to come.”
