ADI Refreshes Luma X21 NVR Portfolio

Updated 4-, 8-, and 16-channel network video recorders deliver improved performance, quieter operation, expanded power capacity, and deeper Control4 and OvrC integration.

ADI Global Distribution has announced a new series of updates to its Luma X21 Network Video Recorder (NVR) portfolio, extending the residential and entry-level platform with updated 4-, 8- and 16-channel models designed to meet the performance, installation and management expectations of today’s smart home surveillance projects.

ADI Global Distribution has announced a new series of updates to its Luma X21 Network Video Recorder (NVR) portfolio

Building on earlier updates within the X21 Series, the latest enhancements introduce improvements across processing performance, bandwidth, power delivery, and installation design.

The updated X21 NVRs feature an enhanced processor platform that delivers smoother system performance and increased bandwidth to support higher-resolution IP cameras. This enables dealers to confidently specify more cameras and higher resolutions within residential systems, opening the door to larger and more complex projects without changing platforms. On select models, PoE budgets have also been increased to better support higher-resolution and higher-power cameras without the need for additional power hardware.

The updated NVRs incorporate a latest-generation, quieter cooling fan, improving acoustic performance in residential environments where equipment is often installed in living spaces rather than dedicated racks. For the 16-channel X21 NVR in particular, an internal power supply has been added, reducing external cabling, simplifying installation and delivering cleaner, more professional results for integrators.

The refreshed 16-channel X21 NVR is designed as a direct, one-to-one replacement for first-generation X20 residential models, addressing evolving system requirements while maintaining continuity for existing Luma dealers. Importantly, it is positioned as part of ADI’s residential and entry-level surveillance offering and does not replace the commercial-grade Luma 420 Series NVRs.

As with the wide Luma portfolio, the updated X21 NVRs are fully NDAA compliant and deeply integrated with OvrC. Through OvrC, dealers can configure systems quickly, monitor device health remotely, update firmware, troubleshoot issues, and adjust settings for both NVRs and connected cameras without on-site visits. This remote-first approach reduces service costs while supporting proactive, service-driven business models.

Native Control4 integration further strengthens the platform’s role within the smart home, allowing surveillance to operate as part of a broad automation ecosystem rather than a standalone system. Alarm inputs and outputs on the updated 16-channel NVR also enhance integration flexibility, supporting more advanced residential security workflows.

Collectively, the X21 Series reflects ADI’s strategy of evolving proven platforms to match modern standards rather than replacing them outright. By improving performance, installation efficiency and system scalability — while preserving dealer familiarity and ecosystem compatibility — the updated Luma X21 NVRs provide a robust, future-ready foundation for residential surveillance projects today, with headroom for continued capability expansion over time.
