The DaVinci Group Launches Signature Series

The DaVinci Group (TDG) has launched its new Signature Series line.

The DaVinci Group (TDG) has launched its new Signature Series line. First shown as a prototype at CEDIA 2015, the Signature Series concept featured a new form factor that attracted the attention of TDG dealers, and many volunteered their suggestions on an ongoing basis as the company worked on subsequent iterations refining the design, resulting in the creation of the IWLCR-66 and IWS-210, the first of the series that are now shipping.

After a series of design revisions, each of which went through extensive testing and voicing, TDG showed the final design at CEDIA 2016, promising to ship by the end of the year. Keeping their promise, the first two models in the Signature Series, the IWLCR-66 and the IWS-210 began shipping in late December.

TDG engineers sought to take a fresh approach to providing high-performance sound for dedicated home theaters, offering an unobtrusive, in-wall solution that can deliver performance and sound pressure levels comparable to that of tower or freestanding box speakers.

Because of the physical dimensions (26 inches x17 inches), each model in the Signature Series features robust construction with a one-piece, steel frame; an integrated high-grade MDF back-box for better performance control; and a new mounting system that attaches the speakers directly into 16-inch-on-center studs—virtually eliminating any possible performance-robbing mechanical vibration.

The IWLCR-66 is a large-format, in-wall, full-range speaker based on dual 6.5-inch heavy-duty drivers designed to be the front LCR speakers in a professionally designed and installed dedicated theater. It combines high efficiency (91dB) with high power handling capability (up to 150 watts), with the aim of delivering true commercial theater-level performance.

With its rigid steel construction, four-driver configuration, and a substantial weight of 36 pounds, this speaker is engineered for powerful yet nuanced performance. The IWLCR-66 components include two 6.5-inch heavy-duty woofers, one 4-inch midrange driver, and a 0.75-inch silk dome wide-dispersion tweeter. All of these components are housed in a back-box constructed from a high-grade, rigid MDF to better control the performance of the speaker.

A key part of the new Signature Series, the IWS-210 utilizes a 10-inch carbon fiber subwoofer and a 10-inch carbon fiber passive radiator which combine to reproduce the lower octaves of much deeper bass for more dramatic music performance, and more exciting special effects.

The IWS-210 has the same robust construction of all of the Signature Series models, including one-piece steel frame construction, high-grade MDF back-box, heavy-duty drivers, unique mounting system, and more, to deliver reference-grade performance in dedicated theater installations. It also features the high efficiency and high power handling capabilities of other Signature Series models with an ability to handle up to 200 watts, for truly thunderous effects.

A key component of the IWS-210 is its carbon fiber woofer and carbon fiber passive radiator. Carbon fiber is both extremely light and rigid, making it well suited for speakers, as it provides for pistonic movement and low distortion.

“We shipped many more units against backorders than we originally anticipated,” said Jeff Francisco, CEO and president of The DaVinci Group. “The level of enthusiasm for the Signature Series by our dealers has exceeded our most optimistic forecasts.”
