Video projectors built the home theater business, and decades later — despite the growing popularity of videowalls — new models continue to bring high-quality images to the biggest screens. Here we look at some of the more recent entries to the market.
JVC Kenwood D-ILA Home Projectors
JVC Kenwood Corporation has released four new high-end D-ILA home projectors — DLA-NZ900/DLA-RS4200 and DLA-NZ800/DLA-RS3200 — all capable of inputting and displaying 8K60p resolution images with higher native contrast and brightness. Each model features JVC’s new exclusive 4K D-ILA devices that have been further refined to the third generation to achieve a 1.5 times higher native contrast ratio when compared to a conventional device. JVC’s new proprietary BLU-Escent Laser light engine increases brightness and luminosity. Users can experience higher definition images through the improved performance of these projectors, achieved through 8K input and display, and the expansion of dynamic range by improving contrast and brightness.

The PX3-PRO integrates Hisense’s advanced LPU and TriChroma triple-laser projection technology, while real-time Pro AI Algorithms enhance brightness, fine-tune contrast, and eliminate noise. The PX3-PRO reaches 110% of the BT.2020 color space. With 3000 ANSI lumens of brightness, Dolby Vision, and a native contrast ratio of 3000:1, the PX3-PRO delivers depth, subtle nuances, and sharp picture performance even in well-lit rooms. It also brings cinematic sound to the forefront with built-in 50-watt front-firing Harman Kardon speakers. Combined with Dolby Atmos, the premium audio engages viewers in sound as immersive as the on-screen action.
Barco Receives PVA Certification
The Professional Video Alliance (PVA) has announced that Barco Residential is the first manufacturer of video projectors to receive PVA Certification across its full range of products. Barco was presented with the certification at ISE 2024.
Products earning the “PVA Certified” designation are guaranteed to have met or exceeded all manufacturer specifications and delivered the stated reference-level performance under simulated conditions. PVA visited Barco headquarters in Belgium to complete the testing. During that weeklong process, eight product series — Medea, Bragi, Balder, Hodr, Njord, Freya, Freya+, and Nerthus — were put through their paces and earned PVA Certified status.
In addition to its product certification programs, the PVA offers training for video professionals worldwide in performance theater design, video product selection, installation, and system optimization. PVA will offer training specifically for Barco Residential products systems; interested dealers should contact their distributors for more information.
Digital Projection Titan and E-Vision Projectors
The Digital Projection E-Vision 10000i WU boasts a newly upgraded electronics platform that shares much of its functionality from the flagship Titan series. Totally redesigned from the bottom up, this E-Vision platform maintains its reputation of exceptional reliability for everything from classrooms to projection mapping, but with a host of new features. Features usually reserved for high-end 3-chip products, such as Source Redundancy, Brightness Sync, and Auto White Balance Correction — complementing 9600 lumens and 20,0000:1 dynamic contrast — make this one of the most flexible single-chip DLP projectors on the market today.
Also from Digital Projection, the TITAN family of laser projectors delivers up to 47,000 lumens at WUXGA and 41,000 lumens at 4K-UHD resolutions and both models incorporate Digital Projection’s ColorBoost +Red Laser technology, which utilizes red laser alongside the traditional blue laser phosphor system to display brilliant, vibrant colors.
XGMI Horizon Max Projector
Expected to launch in late 2024, the XGIMI HORIZON Max is a long-throw smart projector that is IMAX Enhanced certified. The IMAX Enhanced certification, previously exclusive to premium-priced projectors, underscores XGIMI’s commitment to providing inclusive premium-grade entertainment.
Through its exclusive, fully automated motorized gimbal, HORIZON Max goes beyond traditional projection systems by automatically locating the best projection positioning on the wall and intelligently remembering settings for specific walls. Users can use the HORIZON Max for gaming on one side of the room and enjoying movies on the other, and the projector will seamlessly transition when moved between walls, automatically adapting its software and hardware settings to optimize the experience for each activity. This new feature offers users more control and flexibility over the projected image and content. Integrating 3D ToF in ISA 5.0 enhances HORIZON Max’s ability to swiftly detect the surrounding space, enabling users to find the optimal projection spot.
HORIZON Max also achieves high picture quality through its updated Dual Light 2.0 technology — XGIMI’s exclusive system with a dual-light light source. It integrates a Triple laser for an extended color range and a phosphor light to enhance any imperfections produced by the Triple laser.
