APC, Staples in Recycling Partnership

By RS Staff July 7,2008

West Kingston, RI--APC has teamed up with Staples to introduce a new way for customers to conveniently recycle aging uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. This national program is another step in APCs effort to reduce the environmental impact by providing a safe and easy way to responsibly dispose of unwanted units through the technology recycling program at Staples stores.

It is critical that we all do our part as consumers to conserve resources through reducing waste and recycling, said Dave Johnson, senior vice president, Home & Business Networks, APC.  APC and Staples are teaming up to make it even easier for customers to properly dispose of unwanted UPS systems by allowing customers to drop off units that are out of warranty at Staples service desks throughout the United States.

The Staples technology recycling program helps customers securely and responsibly recycle e-waste.  Starting this month, customers can bring UPS systems (3000 kVA and under) at the end of their useful life to any Staples US store, regardless of where they were purchased, and drop them off at the customer service desk.  A recycling fee of $10 per piece is charged to cover handling, transport, product disassembly and recycling.

Through this relationship with APC, we are able to expand our in-store recycling program to accept not only ink and office technology, but UPS systems, said Scott Rankin, vice president of merchandising, Staples. By offering a robust and convenient in-store recycling solution, we are making it easy for our customers to make a difference for the environment, what we call EcoEasy.

To kick off this addition to the recycling program, APC and Staples are launching the Trade In, Trade Up promotion.  When a customer brings any UPS system (3000 kVA and under), regardless of manufacturer, into Staples for recycling from July 27 through August 31, 2008, APC and Staples will waive the $10 recycling fee and give the customer an instant $20 rebate towards the purchase of a new APC Back-UPS, $99.99 and above, from Staples.
