CEA Appointed to FCC Consumer Advisory Group

Committee to focus on consumer education about the digital television transition.

Arlington, VA–Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Kevin Martin has appointed the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) to serve as one of 26 members on the FCCs third Consumer Advisory Committee.CEA senior director of regulatory affairs Julie Kearney will represent CEA on the committee, which has been formed to focus on consumer education surrounding the digital television (DTV) transition.

We are pleased to again be a part of this vital group, said CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro. Consumer education remains paramount to ensure the digital revolution reaches every American television household.We look forward to working with the FCC and members of the Consumer Advisory Committee to ensure this happens successfully.

This two-year term committee is comprised of groups representing consumers, minorities, low-income, disability, and Native American communities as well as state, local, and industry interests.While the committee will focus on consumer education about DTV, it also will work to ensure access to technology for those with disabilities and focus on the impact of new and emerging technologies to consumers.

The first Committee meeting will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007.
