Kenwood Names Digital Director

Kenwood has appointed Mike Bergman as vice president of new digital technologies and signed on P.C Richard and J&R Music and Computer World for retail support.

Long Beach, CA–Kenwood USA Corporation has appointed Mike Bergman as vice president of new digital technologies, a new post, and added retailers P.C Richard and Son and J&R Music and Computer World to their distribution channel.

Bergman was formerly Kenwood’s director of research and development for digital broadcast products and spearheaded the company’s development of SIRIUS satellite radio and HD-Radio receivers. He joined Kenwood in 2002.

“Mike’s appointment will enable Kenwood to maintain market leadership in growth markets like digital radio and in emerging technologies including data broadcast services,” said Dan Petersen, executive vice president of Kenwood’s Consumer Electronics Sector. “Having a U.S.-based presence for these new technologies is central to our product strategy, and Mike’s experience makes him the ideal executive to lead that effort.”

Petersen said the new position was created to manage Kenwood’s development of next generation digital satellite and IBOC receiver products for the U.S. market. Bergman will continue to represent Kenwood in industry standards organizations and technical groups related to digital audio broadcasting and other areas.

The addition of P.C Richard and Son and J&R Music and Computer World is also big news for Kenwood. P.C. Richard, which has more than 45 stores in the New York metropolitan area, has been a Kenwood mobile electronics dealer and is adding home products to its offerings. J&R, a fixture in lower Manhattan for more than 30 years, is taking on Kenwood products for the first time.
