Amplifying a wide selection of sources for playback through any loudspeakers, Onkyo USA’s TX-8260 Network Stereo Receiver and TX-8220 Stereo Receiver are designed to provide a high value proposition for music, film, and game lovers. Both units will ship this month.

TX-8260 combines Wide Range Amplification Technology with universal network streaming and multiroom audio over 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi, along with Hi-Res Audio playback, digital inputs for TV/BD/CD, USB audio, and a discrete MM phono equalizer. Digital connectivity is joined by six gold-plated line-level inputs, Zone 2 pre-/line output, and Bluetooth wireless technology.

Network and multiroom audio support includes Chromecast built-in, FireConnect powered by Blackfire, and DTS Play-Fi technology; Spotify, TIDAL, Pandora, Deezer, and TuneIn music streaming services; and house-wide playback management via Onkyo Controller app for iOS and Android devices.

Chromecast built-in allows for playback control through Chromecast-enabled apps from an iPhone, iPad, Android phone and tablet, Mac and Windows laptop, or Chromebook. TX-8260 also works with the Google Assistant.

Multiroom capability goes further with FireConnect to mirror network and analog sources connected to the receiver, such as vinyl records playing in the main listening space, on FireConnect-ready speakers in other rooms.

DTS Play-Fi technology enables streaming from online services, media server, or device library over Wi-Fi to any number of compatible products via Onkyo Music Control App for iPad, iPhone, and Android phone/tablet. DTS Play-Fi connects systems for synchronized music in every room, and can stream different music to different rooms from the same device.

Users of iTunes and compatible apps can stream over AirPlay from Apple iOS devices, PC, and Mac, and further content integrates via FM/AM radio tuners. Up to 40 stations can be saved and named, with four of these instantly accessible via front-panel buttons—touch to power up and play from a preset station.

TX-8260 offers 80W per channel (8 ohms, 20Hz–20kHz, 0.1 percent THD, two channels driven, FTC) delivered via high-current, low-impedance analog amplification featuring discrete output transistors, non-phase-shift amp circuitry, and massive EI transformer with customized capacitors for instant dynamic response.

The product is fitted with gold-plated banana-plug-ready speaker posts. D/A processing from AKM supports 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Audio playback via LAN and USB, as well as Direct DSD 2.8/5.6MHz playback.

For those that don’t require network capability, but want similar audio quality and wide connectivity, the TX-8220 Stereo Receiver generates 45W per channel (8 ohms, 20Hz–20kHz, 0.08 percent THD, FTC) of wideband stereo power, and features two digital audio inputs, four line-level inputs, and subwoofer pre-out to enhance bass.

The receiver includes Bluetooth wireless audio streaming technology with Auto Connect for preconfigured devices. Low-latency transmission makes music streamed from virtually any application sound fuller, fatter, and more detailed.

TX-8220 also opens the door to authentic analog amplification for vinyl with inclusion of a discrete MM phono equalizer for turntable. As the center of home entertainment, it also adds FM/AM radio tuners. Speaker A+B and A/B drive capability lets radio, music, even the TV sport play through another pair of speakers in the kitchen, bedroom, or garage. Housed inside a robust chassis, Onkyo’s high-current Wide Range Amplification Technology serves rich, agile, and detailed sound.
