AT&T is officially launching its Digital Life home security and automation platform in eight markets in March, with up to 50 more market rollouts planned for 2013.
Previously in beta testing mode, Digital Life is an IP-based remote monitoring and automation platform that global service providers can offer subscribers for customizable, web-based home automation, energy, and security features. Billed as “a complete end-to-end solution,” Digital Life integrates wireless sensors and cameras with a home control center for managing through any web-based device, regardless of wireless or broadband providers.

Security and automation packages are customizable, and users can choose to manage and control their own programs and alerts. Several options are available for purchasing the platform, including at an AT&T retail location, a dedicated call center, online, or through an appointment with an in-home sales consultant. Since Digital Life is a completely wireless system, hard wire set-up is not necessary, although there is an initial setup that must be conducted by a professional.
The basic Digital Life offering is bundled as the simple security package with total home automation offered in the smart security package, which can be added on to with several other packages. The add-ons include a video option, to view live video inside and outside the home; the energy package, to control appliances, lighting, and HVAC; a door package, to take advantage of automated door locks; and a water package, to detect leaks before damage sets in or shut off the water source if a leak is detected.
Some of the enabled devices include cameras; window/door sensors; smoke, carbon monoxide, motion and glass break sensors; door locks; thermostats; moisture detection and water sjhut-off; and appliance and lighting controls.
AT&T did not indicate which markets the initial commercial launch will include.
