Audio Concepts, New England’s resource for premier audio and video components for more than 30 years, hosted a grand opening reception at its second location serving the greater Boston area, last week, and I sent my audio-enthusiast brother-in-law, Scott, to report on the event and take some photos for me.

Scott left impressed with the showroom’s “home-like” environment, and thought the facility showcased a suitable blend of two-channel gear and whole-house integrated electronics.
The new Experience Center & Design Studio is located at 870 Commonwealth Ave., in the heart of Boston’s college community.
Technically, the grand opening celebration, which began March 19, will run for six weeks. Audio Concepts invites the public to bring their favorite music, on CDs or iPod, to demo some of the finest audio and video components available in the area. Representatives from Bowers & Wilkins, Classé Audio, Rotel Electronics, New World Lighting, Lutron, and other manufacturers will be on hand to talk with consumers.
The showroom was conceived and designed by ImageCrafters Inc., a Boston-based showroom design and brand management company. The 5,500-square-foot facility blends audio and video brands, the latest green technologies in low-voltage lighting systems, lighting control, and automated shade systems, and a full complement of chairs and seats from Stressless Seating.
The Experience Center
The Experience Center has several special features, including samples of four rooms of typical sizes and shapes: a den, a living room, a family room, and a library/playroom. This fully integrated approach allows customers to enjoy the experience as they would in their homes, and helps them to better understand the investment. A conference room has been configured with technology for video conferencing, to provide a productive and comfortable setting for project reviews or consultations. High-performance audio and video equipment can be auditioned in a separate room designed for the most discriminating enthusiasts.
The Design Studio
Audio Concepts’ showroom includes a comprehensive design studio available to customers and their interior designers for consolidating their home design process. This includes:
A full-scale display of window shades featuring examples of different types of powered shades and large samples of all fabrics currently available.
A complete lighting showroom, featuring the New World Lighting line of recessed, rail, and cable lighting systems. Samples of numerous glass shades and sconces will be displayed, as well. Halogen and LED lamps are available for most systems.
Cabinet and case good samples are displayed from several furniture manufacturers from the U.S. and around the world. Also featured is the work of local cabinetmakers, whose experience and craftsmanship can build whatever a client can dream.
Seating by Stressless and Ekornes including recliners, ottomans, sofas, tables, and accessories. Stressless, Audio Concepts’ primary supplier, offers many grades of leather and fabrics. More than 34 chairs and sofas are on display to complete the presentation.
Don Houde, president of Audio Concepts said, “We are proud of what our team has created. Once completed, this facility will be one of a kind. We have made a huge commitment in building the showroom, but have also recognized the importance of adding a strong group of 10 extremely talented and experienced individuals to support the endeavor.”
