For this month’s installment of Showroom Spotlight, let’s take a walk on the commercial side as we check out LG’s brand-new Business Innovation Center (BIC), located in its massive, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., headquarters. With light commercial work continuing to creep into residential integrators’ booked projects, having a space to check out the latest available technology can provide a huge benefit to installers and their clients — plus it is a few floors above LG’s residential showroom, so a visit to more familiar territory can always be added.

This latest BIC is the company’s fourth, with the others located in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta. With extremely close proximity to New York City, the 3600-square-foot showroom enables integrators, builders, architects, designers, and technology managers first-hand experience with a large selection of LG products across several vertical markets.

Hello, Robots!
The 350,000-square-foot LG HQ is beyond impressive before you even make it through the front doors. And on the way to the new BIC, you will be tempted to stop next door at the Skyline Showroom, which has the latest high-end LG kitchen appliances in a fully operational café with a view of the Manhattan skyline, but make a right a keep going to the BIC where friendly CLOi robots CarryBot, GuideBot, and ServeBot are waiting to greet you in front of some large, stunning DVLEDs.

In fact, the whole first section of the BIC is devoted to LG’s line of DVLEDs, including a 217-inch UHD-quality MAGNIT display that can be used for luxury residential projects. Throughout the space, a number of All-in-One DVLED models up to 163 inches in size show how to add a large, dramatic canvas to any space with built-in processing and stereo speakers. With DVLEDs making a mark in the residential world, this area has a lot to offer integrators.

Next up is the work-in-progress EV charger section, which right now features an LG EV charger on the wall but will soon include an interactive kiosk for commercial charging stations that can show ads or even let the customer stream their content to the kiosk screen to help kill time during a charging session.

Next up is the computing area that lets users experience LG gram laptops ranging from 11 inches to 17 inches and a large variety of IT and desktop solutions, including monitors up to 49 inches with 4K and ultrawide options, thin client all-in-ones, and thin client boxes for flexible edge computing.

From there, it leads to LG’s commercial line of ProBeam and CineBeam projectors, which sit directly across a dedicated digital signage area. The digital signage exhibit includes LCDs up to 110 inches, LG Ultrastretch displays with aspect ratios up to 58:9, a 4K Gallery OLED display, outdoor-rated displays, and the LG Transparent OLED display, which has proven to generate crowds at tradeshows.

The next section demonstrates why LG is a leading television provider to the U.S. lodging and hospitality industry, showing off a variety of commercial-grade smart hotel TVs in 55- and 75-inch sizes with up to 4K Ultra HD resolution. Each model includes the LG Pro:Centric Smart platform that enables the use of modern solutions, including content streaming and interface customization. Plus, LG hotel TVs are now equipped with Alexa for Hospitality and Apple Airplay capabilities.

The final stop will unlikely pertain to any job you take on but is still interesting —LG’s medical solutions. It features a variety of digital displays including diagnostic monitors, radiology monitors, surgical monitors, and computer monitors with special features such as unique aspect ratios for optimized viewing of medical images and documents. This space also highlights LG’s line of portable DXD X-ray detectors.

What’s Next?
Like all showrooms, the LG BIC is never quite done. In addition to adding its completed EV charger kiosk, David Bacher, head of marketing for LG’s business solutions, says they will always make room for whatever innovations LG unveils. Plus, he points to a door at the rear of the facility that, at the moment, leads to a space that is only used for storage, but he has bigger plans for it in the future.
In the meantime, he says the next phase for the BIC is to host larger events for integrators, the trades, and end users. After all, they have a state-of-the-art kitchen right next door.
