BlackWire Creates ecobee Driver for Control4

BlackWire Designs, a Phoenix-based distributor, has announced a new ecobee driver for the Control4 ecosystem this week.

BlackWire Designs, a Phoenix-based distributor, has announced a new ecobee driver for the Control4 ecosystem this week. The driver not only allows the control and management of the client’s ecobee smart thermostat, but also adds unique support for ecobee’s room sensors. Consumers can quickly glance at their Control4 interface and see the exact temperature in rooms where a sensor is placed.

“We worked with a relatively new feature on the Control4 system that not many people know about that allows developers to change a device’s icon programmatically,” said Kevin Luther, president of BlackWire. “These icons have been used for devices such as relays and lights in the past to show simple on or off states, but we’re the first to utilize the technology to show temperature readings. What really matters is how convenient they are and how nice they look on the touchscreens and mobile apps for consumers.”

The driver also supports the occupancy detection feature of the room sensors and enables dealers to program lighting scenes or other occupancy-based programming. Luther said BlackWire is also working on drivers for both URC and ELAN, which should become available later this year.

In addition to the new driver, BlackWire announced its new partnership as a distributor with ecobee to focus on supporting the custom integration marketplace. “Ecobee is always focused providing customers with easy ways to manage their heating and cooling,” said Derrick Boyce, VP of sales. “And we’re excited to partner with BlackWire to add yet another way for customers to do just that.”

The BlackWire ecobee driver supports any ecobee model thermostat and is available at www.blackwiredeisngs.com. The driver can be bundled with any ecobee thermostat purchase at no cost or purchased for a small licensing fee.
