Bang & Olufsen has now joined the battle for 4K TV supremacy with its BeoVision Avant smart TV, which comes complete with all its Danish minimalist design and luxury features.

The capabilities that bring the BeoVision Avant, dubbed “the one that moves,” to life include a sound panel that unfolds when the TV is turned on and then retreats inside when off paired with digital “curtains” that are drawn when powered on or off, as well as several motorized mount options—table stand, floor stand or wall bracket. And then of course, 4K UHD, three-channel stereo, dual tuning, recording capabilities, and sensors that measure the room’s lighting to automatically adjust contrast and color, “all the bells and whistles,” as stated by B&O America president, Kathy Thornton-Bias at the U.S. launch of the product in New York City on Thursday.
As is typical of a B&O product, great attention was paid to the design concept. The sound system and mount were closely coordinated by designers to create a “beautiful choreographed movement,” as Thornton-Bias described.
She also went on to explain to simplicity concept designers worked to achieve with the BeoVision Avant. “At the end of the day, for us, life is not about specifications. That’s not at all what sets our agenda,” Thornton-Bias said. “It’s the user experience.”
With this foundation, BeoVision Avant has added more intuitive graphic icons to its user interface, controlled with the new BeoRemote One universal remote control. Three customizable buttons can be programmed for individual user preferences or “snapshot” scenes. There is also the BeoRemote app for iPad or Android tablets.
Eight fully active speakers drive the three-channel speaker system in individual closed cabinets, each with its own dedicated class D amplifier, and a rear firing 6.5-inch bass driver. A WiSA transmitter is integrated for connecting wireless speakers. There are also 10 wired channel available, so up to 21 total channels of audio are possible. A sound equalizer was integrated to adapt the bass when the motorized bracket is used, and a bass management algorithm directs low frequencies to the most appropriate speakers or subwoofers in the system. Automatic speaker calibration adapts gain and delay on the connected speakers for simple setup.
“At Bang & Olufsen, we have a saying: The sound is half the picture,” Thornton-Bias shared. “And this television nails it.”
BeoVision Avant can even connect to an analog master link system via a BeoLink converter to enable multi-room audio distribution.
There are also pre-programmed modes for different content, like drama, sports, or gaming, all of which are customizable. The 55-inch screen LED panel has an anti-reflection coating, adaptive contrast, and undergoes a 10-point factory calibration. A digital media renderer (DMR) employs DLNA to wirelessly pull content from a mobile device. Five separate inputs are available to connect different devices. An optional disk can be integrated into the TV to record digital broadcasts.
Bang & Olufsen’s Smart TV is incorporated along with internet radio and music services, including Spotify.
MSRP for the BeoVision Avant is $7,995 and checks in just under $10,000 with the motorized stands or wall bracket.
