The Professional Women in Building Council of the Kansas City Home Builders Association started two years ago and has 105 members. The Co-Chair of the council, Sara Jo De La Isla, lighting designer at Denizen, will become Chair in 2023. The Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council advocates for, supports, and inspires women in the building industry by providing opportunities for both professional and personal development as well as engagement of its members.

To accomplish its mission, the organization does the following:

  • Acknowledge women and their achievements in the building industry
  • Provide resources and training opportunities to help women achieve financial independence
  • Educate the public on the value of women working in the building industry
  • Build coalitions to strengthen the voice of women within the industry

“The James Bond-themed Bottle & Barrel Bash Annual Fundraiser seeks to raise awareness of opportunities for women to enjoy a wide range of roles in the building industry,” says Chris Carboni, central sales manager, residential systems at DMF Lighting. “We are delighted to sponsor this important initiative on behalf of our partners at Denizen.”

“DMF Lighting is a brand that truly supports our mission and is one of our most valued solutions in the market today,” says De La Isla. “We really appreciate their support to promote the inclusion of women in our industry and encourage young women to embrace the possibilities for their future careers.”
