MartinLogan replaced two floorstanding speakers in its Motion series of speakers to bring the company’s brand to a wider customer base.

The Motion series, which was launched in January 2010, incorporate Folded Motion thin-film tweeter technology in lieu of the company’s more expensive electrostatic drivers. The technology is said to deliver fast transient response and a surface area that is eight times that of a 1-inch dome tweeter to deliver high levels of realism, MartinLogan said.
The two new models mark the beginning of a “full remake” of the Motion series, which are priced less than the company’s electrostatic speakers, a spokesman said.
The two new floorstanding speakers are the Motion 20 at a suggested $749 each and the Motion 40 at $949 each. Both models improve performance over their predecessors, in part through larger drivers as well as through a cabinet redesign, said marketing director Mark Aling. Both models, which are shipping, are voice-matched to the series’ Motion FX surround speakers and to a planned new Motion 30 center-channel speaker, which will be released soon, the company said.
The two replace floorstanding models priced at $995.95/pair and $1,499.95/pair.
