The Southern California native, 59, was director of training and development at regional CE chain The Federated Group from 1975 to 1988, according to his LinkedIn biography. From 1988 to 2003, he was Yamaha’s training and development trainer. In 2003, he launched a career writing about audio components for such publications as Widescreen Review, Ultimate AV and Home Theater Magazine.

Altunian resided in Oceanside and Temecula, CA, with his decade-long companion Marcia Walker and his dogs Rosie and Aussie, according to an email sent to Yamaha employees. He has a sister, Sue Holland of Shadow Hills, CA, and a son, Jason Altunian, of Huntington Beach, CA.

Altunian, the letter states, “was admired and respected by everyone that knew him, or that came into contact with him over his long electronics industry career that spanned over 35 years.”
