Somfy Raises Child Safety Awareness

This Child Safety Month, Somfy Systems, Inc., is educating the public about the dangers of window covering cords in households with young children.

This Child Safety Month, Somfy Systems, Inc., is educating the public about the dangers of window covering cords in households with young children.

All month long Somfy will be posting safety tips on their social media pages, as well as hosting a Facebook contest to increase awareness and prevent associated tragedies.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, since 1990, more than 200 infants and young children have died by accidentally strangling in window cords. Somfy wants parents to know there is a safer alternative: motorized window coverings. Not only are motorized shades convenient, but they also offer peace of mind by creating a safe and comfortable environment for parents and children. Motorized roller shades are the safest option, because they completely eliminate the need for hanging cords, which can cause accidental strangulation.

“It is a tragic reality that hanging window cords can create an unsafe environment for children,” said Somfy North America CEO and president, Michael Lee. “We at Somfy do everything in our power to inform parents that motorized shades provide a safer alternative and that they can rid their homes of this potential harm.

Somfy Systems is also hosting a social media contest during the month of October to increase awareness about the dangers of hanging window cords. Fans can enter by posting a child safety tip on the contest page. At the end of the month, fans will vote on the tip they find most helpful and 2 people will win a $50 iTunes gift card. Tip entries end on October 31 and voting will start on November 1 and end on November 5 at midnight.
