SpeakerCraft Unveils Speaker For MDU Market

The loudspeaker manufacturer is tapping into the current multi-dwelling unit real estate boon with a speaker that works around common MDU restrictions.

Riverside, CA–SpeakerCraft has created the MDU speaker, which is dedicated to installations in . multi-dwelling housing units such as condos, town homes, and apartments.

Citing inherent problems, such as sound interference, code restrictions, and concrete or brick construction, that arise when using flush-mounted speakers in such dwellings, the company has designed the MDU speaker with a four-inch woofer and a .75-inch dome tweeter. It is mounted to the ceiling via a standard J-box or attached directly to the ceiling joist. The multi-pivot bracket allows the speaker to be aimed at the listening area from any position in the room.

“Dealers are doing more work in multiple dwelling units as the real estate market has changed and many consumers cannot afford to, or, for any number of reasons, choose not to live in a freestanding home,” said Dave Donald, SpeakerCraft’s VP of marketing. “We wanted to give these people an opportunity to enjoy the same home entertainment experience as those in detached structures.”
