By RS Staff Published: February 28, 2017 ⋅ Updated: April 15, 2019 Bowers & Wilkins has launched the DB Series, which contains three subwoofers designed to deliver powerful and tight bass. They are the most powerful active subwoofers Bowers & Wilkins has ever produced, according to the company, and feature the Aerofoil cone bass drivers used in the 800 Series Diamond. Comprising the flagship DB1D, mid-sized DB2D, and compact DB3D, the range follows in the footsteps of the DB-1, but incorporates new digital technology and materials from the 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers, including Aerofoil cones. All three models have high power ratings—with the DB1D featuring 2,000 watts—plus dual-opposed drive units and rigid cabinets to reduce distortion. The DB Series subwoofers use Aerofoil cones identical to those found in the 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers. These light, ultra-stiff transducers resist bending and flexing longer than conventional cones, delivering controlled bass with increased precision. The cone on the DB2D is the same as the 800 D3, while the DB1D features a 12-inch driver, the company’s largest Aerofoil cone to date. The DB Series also features an all-new digital preamplifier, with Bowers & Wilkins-developed DSP such as Dynamic EQ and Room EQ to enhance performance in every space. Setup and configuration of the DB series is made easier with its dedicated mobile app. The app includes positioning guides, setup and troubleshooting, and can be used to provide control over both output and audio preset modes. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and no separate microphone kit is required. The DB Series is slated for availability in May.
