OSD Audio has released the MTR-500 70V/100V Amplifier/Transformer. The MTR-500 coverts an 8-ohm amplifier to a 70V/100V amp, allowing multiple pairs of 70V speakers to be run to a single amplifier.

“A lot of folks don’t know about the OSD Audio MTR-500 Amp/Transformer, but it’s a great product,” said Dustin Hodges of OSD Audio. “Its main application is to take a typical 8 ohm amplifier and turn it into a 70V amplifier, which could be vey useful for commercial, residential and even pro audio installations.”
By connecting the MTR-500 amp transformer to the inputs of the existing 8-ohm amp, the installer can run additional 70V speakers with transformer taps without having to add another amp. The output of the MTR becomes a high impedance or 70V transformer.
“The MTR-500 lets you connect up to eight pairs of 70V speakers without worrying about impedance issues,” Hodges said. “Simply connect all the speakers and set the transformer taps to the proper amount of power needed and boom, you now have a 70V system.”
Features include a maximum power handling for bridge connection of 500 Watts, internal constant voltage transformers, short circuit and overload protection, and a metal chassis.
The MTR-500 retails for $129.95.
