WiSA Releases CTS for Wireless Link Interoperability

August 29, 2012
The Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA) Association has released a Compliance Test Specification (CTS) for interoperability testing of the wireless link between WiSA-compliant speakers and home theater/consumer electronics devices such as DTVs, set-top-boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, and game consoles.

Consumers will be able to outfit their home entertainment system with WiSA-certified speakers that scale from 2.0 stereo to 7.4 surround sound and components from any WiSA-compliant manufacturer, with the assurance that the devices will interoperate with each other and provide the highest standard in wireless HD audio. The CTS version 1.0 is available for download to WiSA members at wisaassociation.org.

The CTS specifies all the required interoperability and certification testing aimed at products that offer interference-free, uncompressed HD audio by taking advantage of the unique 5GHz Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) frequency band and avoiding the congested 2.4GHz Wi-Fi frequency spectrum. Products passing the wireless compliance and interoperability testing will be certified to display the WiSA logo.

Manufacturers who achieve WiSA compliance will have the advantage of setting a new standard for audio quality and be the first to market with an interference-free, HD wireless surround sound audio system, signaling to consumers that their products are reliable, flexible and interoperate with other WiSA-compliant components and CE devices.

“There is an inflection point in the home theater market where having a robust wireless audio technology can address the inadequate audio quality in today’s ultra-thin DTVs,” said Jim Venable, president of the WiSA Association. “Consumers can be confident that products bearing the WiSA logo will deliver a cinema-level audio experience that matches the extraordinary video available on today’s displays.”

Opportunities to participate in the Association exist for Members and Associate Members. Companies and organizations interested in joining the group are welcome to contact the Association. The application to join and information about membership fees can be found at wisaassociation.org.

The WiSA Association will be an exhibitor in sound room 6 at the CEDIA EXPO, providing product demonstrations of member companies’ 7.1 surround sound solutions which are based on the WiSA Compliance Test Specification (CTS).
