Pioneer Launches Include Wi-Fi Speakers

Pioneer Electronics unveiled its first wireless tabletop speakers, expanded its lineup of computer speakers, and added a new Blu-ray player to its home-electronics selection at the CEA Line Show in New York City this week.

Pioneer Electronics unveiled its first wireless tabletop speakers, expanded its lineup of computer speakers, and added a new Blu-ray player to its home-electronics selection at the CEA Line Show in New York City this week.

The $399-suggested XW-SMA4 is one of Pioneer’s three Wi-Fi-equipped tabletop speakers with Apple AirPlay, DLNA certification, and HTC’s Connect Program certification.

The company also announced a partnership with smartphone maker HTC to offer the industry’s first consumer electronics products designed to make it easier to stream audio wirelessly from an HTC smartphone’s native music player.

In aftermarket car electronics, the company is introducing a dedicated app developer portal, www.appradiodev.com, to encourage third-party development of Android and Apple iOS apps whose content can be displayed on, and controlled from, the company’s in-dash AppRadio head units. The self-service website outlines the procedures for submitting apps for consideration, and provides a software development kit.

In wireless speakers, the company unveiled a trio of active single-chassis wireless tabletop models that incorporate Wi-Fi, DLNA 1.5 certification, Apple AirPlay, and HTC Connect certification, which makes it easier for consumers to stream audio from a compatible HTC smartphone’s native music player.

The speakers, one of which is a portable AC/DC model, will ship in August at suggested retails of $299 to $399.
