Menlo Park, CA–Pacific Media Associates reports that unit sales for flat panel televisions and business displays in North America fell 16 percent for April. Their Flat Panel Display Sell-Through Tracking Service also shows that the average street price fell five percent for the month.
“The drop in unit sales is consistent with what we saw with rear-projection HDTVs and consumer front projectors,” according to Rosemary Abowd, Pacific Media vice president. “In spite of the decline in April, unit sales for LCD and plasma panels show considerable annualized growth, and are up 70 percent over April 2005.”
The top-selling models in April were the Panasonic 42-inch TH-42PX60U and 50-inch TH-50PX60U plasma HDTVs, which became available in quantity in April with aggressive pricing. Their success helped Panasonic nearly double its unit share over the past two months, to take the top spot with 29 percent. It also had top revenue share with 30 percent.
