D-Tools Tries a New Free Model for Microsoft Visio

Free D-Tools application provides Microsoft Visio users with multiple industry-specific plan view shape libraries to improve communication and project documentation.

D-Tools is testing a new free model for its new system design application, FreeTools PSL. The application will be available to the entire electronic systems integration community at no charge.

FreeTools PSL will be available to the entire electronic systems integration community at no charge.

FreeTools PSL (Professional Symbol Library) provides Microsoft Visio users with multiple libraries of industry-specific plan view symbols and Visio drawing templates that make it easier to create system designs using universally accepted industry standards. Once implemented, users can utilize three different stencil libraries within FreeTools PSL based on industry standards including AVC (audio video control), security, and custom. By utilizing these libraries and incorporating industry standard symbols into the system design and documentation process, electronic systems integrators using Visio will more clearly communicate with customers and project partners across trades. Moreover, they will also be able to universalize a project, which not only simplifies reading design documentation; it streamlines projects and increases efficiency and accuracy.

The FreeTools PSL application is a plug-in that is compatible with Visio 2007 to Visio 2013 and consists of plan view Visio stencils and Visio drawing templates. Now available, FreeTools PSL includes three Symbol Libraries that contain associated stencils: AVC, security, and custom. The AVC stencils are a based on the J-STD-710 symbols created by a joint committee from CEDIA, CEA and InfoComm. The Security stencils are based on the SIA Architectural Graphic Standard, and the Custom stencils contain useful electronic system symbols such as wire, text call out, and a Universal dimension shape. Additional FreeTools symbols (such as Fire/Safety and Electrical) will be available soon. The FreeTools PSL app serves as both an enhancement and a gateway for Visio users who have yet to dedicate resources to D-Tools or other system design and documentation platforms.

“Established universal industry standards are an important component of successful drawing designs and technical projects. Not only do they create uniformity within any given project, they also provide clear communication and a higher level of professionalism,” stated Adam Stone, president of D-Tools.

Integrators utilizing industry standard symbols, stencils and graphics for their system design work deliver needed clarity and consistency to project partners and cross-functional teams. They also are provided the opportunity to compete for bids at a higher level, earn and maintain project access, streamline processes, and boost their bottom line. Moreover, drawings created in FreeTools PSL can be integrated into D-Tools’ System Integrator, providing users of the company’s flagship product with a way to visually share ideas with clients and partners, then bring those drawings into the System Integrator workflow for further project design and management.

“By implementing industry standard symbols into their system design work, electronic systems integrators are provided an effective means for producing professional-looking, easily recognized proposals and design documentation that allows their firm to compete at a higher level and win more bids,” stated D-Tools president, Adam Stone. “Not only does standardization provide extensive value to every entity involved in a given installation, it will soon become a requirement. Essentially, D-Tools provides integrators a leg-up on their competition by encouraging the early adoption of industry standardized drawing shapes.”
