Otto System Works Creates One of the First Trinnov WaveForming Home Cinemas in the U.S.

Sommer cable was used exclusively throughout the entire cinema for analog and digital audio interconnects, as well as speaker cables.

Otto System Works has designed, built, commissioned, and delivered one of the first Trinnov WaveForming home cinemas in the U.S. Sommer cable was used exclusively throughout the entire cinema for analog and digital audio interconnects, as well as speaker cables.

WaveForming leverages advanced proprietary algorithms and new theater design protocols to deliver a new level of calibrated bass performance. By completely removing the room’s modal response, Trinnov WaveForming delivers thick, powerful and defined bass for the most detailed bass experience currently possible and one that can be custom-tailored after the cinema is completed.

Otto System Works is a full-service company that supports both personal and professional recording studios, rehearsal spaces, performance venues, and high-end home cinemas. The primary focus is the design of high-performance environments for audio production and recording. Services include complete studio design, system hardware upgrades, and select equipment sales and service.

Designer Alex Otto explains, “WaveForming is Trinnov’s new technology that leverages multiple subwoofers in a unique way to control the low-frequency energy in the room and create a uniform area of accurate bass over a larger seating area. This is the first theater of its type completed in Arizona and to my knowledge the first of its kind delivered to a client in the U.S., dealer showrooms and Trinnov HQ not included.” The cinema went online in August 2024.

The cinema features a JVC-NZ9 projector housed in an OSW custom hush box and vibration isolation mount. The screen is a Seymour Screen Excellence Reference Series woven screen. Sources include a Kaleidescape movie server system. Video processing is handled by a MadVR Labs Envy Extreme Mk2. A Trinnov Altitude16 expanded to run in a plus four configuration adds 20 channels of optimization to tailor the audio to the room’s acoustics. Loudspeakers and subwoofers are from Procella and amplification for the 32 kW cinema is provided by three Linea Research amplifiers.  The entire cinema is provided clean power by a Torus Power 100-amp isolation transformer.

Behind the woven screen are the speakers and subwoofers.

“This room is a 9.1.6 room with a total of 20 loudspeakers and subs,” Otto continues. “Procella P28 speakers for the screen channels and Procella P8 for the remaining ear level and top channels. Three Procella P18SI subwoofers are mounted as emitters on the front wall while two 15-inch Procella P15SI are mounted on the rear wall as receivers.

“Sommer cable is used throughout the entire cinema for analog and digital audio interconnects, as well as speaker cables. We used Sommer cable to rewire the internals of some of the speakers. Sommer cable is our preferred choice in all critical applications. Sommer never fails to deliver exceptional sonic performance, noise-free installations, and high reliability. The resolution and dynamics of this home cinema are impressive, and the low-frequency extension, detail, and uniformity throughout the carefully placed six-seat theater is exceptional. The room reaches reference levels without showing any signs of stress or distortion.”

Sommer products used in this project include Sommer Cables High End SC-Albedo MKII for analog interconnects between the Trinnov Audio Processor and amplifies, which was also used to deliver signal from the outboard DACs to the amplifiers. Sommer SC-Meridian Mobile was used to feed the subwoofer and loudspeakers. 9 AWG was used to feed the subwoofers while 11 AWG was used for the speakers. Sommer SC-Vector was used for SPDIF Digital Audio connections to the outboard DAC.
