Pioneer Acquires NEC's Plasma Division

Tokyo, Japan--Pioneer Electronics has penned an agreement to acquire the NEC Plasma Display Corporation (NPD). The transfer agreement--slated for March 2004--will make Pioneer one of the world's largest plasma manufacturers.

Tokyo, Japan--Pioneer Electronics has penned an agreement to acquire the NEC Plasma Display Corporation (NPD). The transfer agreement--slated for March 2004--will make Pioneer one of the world's largest plasma manufacturers.

According to Pioneer USA's president/COO, Tom Haga, Pioneer will manufacture plasma panels under both the Pioneer and NEC brands, and will utilize its new corporate synergy to increase production capacity and enhance R&D.

Pioneer expects its plasma display market share to rise from 14 percent to a 22 percent by 2006.
