Denon Introduces Latest IMAX Enhanced 4K AV Receiver

The AVR-X3600H offers the latest home theater audio and video formats.

Denon has announced its latest X-Series AV receiver, the Denon AVR-X3600H ($1099). The new 9.2-channel AV receiver offers IMAX Enhanced out-of-box, as well as a full suite of three-dimensional audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, and new Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology. It also supports the latest video technologies, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, and 4K Ultra HD. Additionally, the AVR-X3600H supports Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which ensure consumers have the latest performance and connectivity options for years to come.

Featuring discrete high-current amplifiers on all channels, the AVR-X3600H delivers high-power performance at 105 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz–20 kHz, THD: 0.08%, 2 channels driven). The AVR features 9-channel amplification and is also capable of processing up to 11.2 channels to drive a 7.2.4 speaker setup when used alongside external 2-channel amplification. For Hi-Fi enthusiasts, the AVR-X3600H boasts AKM 32-bit D/A converters and features high-resolution audio decoding compatible with multiple lossless file types, including ALAC, FLAC, and WAV at up to 24-bit/196 kHz. It’s also compatible with 2.8/5.6 MHz DSD files (DSD is the audio coding format of SACD). Play them from memory devices via the front panel USB, or over network sources. The AVR-X3600H also supports other file types such as MP3 and WMA.

Denon’s new performance-tuned AV receiver supports the latest surround sound formats, including IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology adds virtualized height and surround effects on traditional stereo or surround content, as well as Dolby Atmos content while using fewer speakers. It is used to create the sensation of sound that extends above and beyond the listener, using only loudspeakers originating at listener-level. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology will be delivered via a future firmware update.

The AVR-X3600H offers eight HDMI inputs and three outputs that support 4K Ultra HD 60 Hz video, High Dynamic Range (HDR10), Dolby Vision, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) 4:4:4 Pure Color sub sampling, and BT.2020 pass-through. The new AVR also boasts HDCP 2.3 — the latest copy protection standard — on all HDMI ports, which allows users to enjoy copy-protected content uninhibited. Incorporating eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), the AVR-X3600H also supports transmission of immersive audio from TV apps to the AVR with a single HDMI cable for simple setup. Certified by the Imaging Science Foundation, the AVR features a full suite of video calibration controls (for use by an ISF technician), along with ISF Day and ISF Night video modes.

The new X-Series receiver also supports ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), which ensures Xbox One users have a more responsive and immersive gaming experience when connected to TV models that also support ALLM.
