Firewalla has announced App Version 1.68. This major update delivers enhanced machine-learning protection, a refreshed and more intuitive user interface, time management tools, and smarter ways to keep your network safe and under control.
The release centers on a major update to Device Active Protect (DAP), Firewalla’s intelligent, ML-powered security feature available on Gold Series hardware. Users can now choose between Default mode for balanced flexibility during learning and optimization or Strict mode for tougher enforcement once devices complete their learning phase (which may take several days). New capabilities include automatically isolating compatible Wi-Fi devices when using AP7 hardware to minimize unnecessary local chatter, and the ability to restart learning on eligible devices to reset and refine behavior profiles.
The app gets a modern makeover designed for faster, more enjoyable everyday use:
- A clean bottom navigation bar for instant access to Home, Devices, and Alarms.
- Prominent Rules shortcut right on the home screen.
- Custom, locally stored user avatars (never uploaded to the cloud) let you quickly spot family members or profiles across lists and shortcuts.
Parental and productivity controls reach new heights with expanded time management features:
- Time Limit rules can now target groups of apps, pooling usage across them for a single shared limit — simplifying screen-time policies.
- Track and enforce total Internet activity time per profile, with the option to set network-wide limits.
The popular Disturb feature introduced in 1.66 is now even more versatile. Users can apply it as a gentle follow-up after time limits expire, creating simulated network slowdowns instead of hard blocks. Support now extends to target lists, individual IPs, and domains, with convenient trigger buttons available from shortcuts and device details.
Rule management and visibility have also been supercharged with custom rule names, direct hit-time views in the Rules List, matching rules shown on flow details for faster troubleshooting, summary counts of local/online/offline devices, and per-device notes. Additional highlights include disabling previously locked control-button rules, improved captive portal handling on select hardware, and full IPv6 support for the OpenVPN server/client.
Firewalla App Version 1.68 is rolling out now to Beta participants on iOS (via TestFlight) and Android (via Google Play Beta). Early Access users received priority access earlier this month.
App Version 1.68 is compatible with Firewalla Orange, Purple, Purple SE, Gold, Gold Plus, Gold SE, and Gold Pro models. Many new features require box version 1.982 or later, available through Early Access or Beta programs.
Firewalla does not charge mandatory subscription fees for its standard device features. No monthly fee is required to use the core functions of the Firewalla hardware and the companion app once you own a device; ongoing updates and security features are included without a subscription.
