HiFiMAN has developed its first on-ear headphone, the Edition S. The new model features a removable cap on the ear cup, allowing users to change the headphones from open or closed-back at will. The Edition S comes with a travel case and will begin shipping in February.
The ability to remove the caps of the ear cups provides user some of the sonic benefits of both an open-back design and the travel benefits of a closed-back design.
The Edition S employs a 50mm dynamic driver designed for full range frequency response. With a sensitivity rating of 97dB and impedance of 32 ohms, the HiFiMAN on-ear headphone can be driven by most portable audio devices such as smartphones and iPods. The unit is also fitted with a high performance Oxygen Free Copper cable that is 1.2 m long and terminated in a 3.5mm mini jack. A 6.35mm (1/4”) phone jack adapter is supplied allowing the owner to plug Edition S into portable or HiFi equipment. The complete unit weighs in at 8 ounces (340 grams).

However performance-minded listeners prefer open back for better sound. So with edition S, I am excited to offer a simple way that listeners can have both.”
HiFiMAN will be exhibiting at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, NV from January 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall in 21815 and the Venetian in Suite 30-229. Edition S will be on hand for audition along with the rest of the line HiFiMAN headphones, portable music players, and headphone amplifiers.
