PSB Launches Imagine XA: Dolby Atmos Enabled Speaker Modules

PSB Speakers has launched its first first Dolby Atmos enabled speaker modules, the Imagine XA.

PSB Speakers has launched its first Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker modules, the Imagine XA. Built to fit on top of PSB’s Imagine X floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, Imagine XA can create a variety of Dolby Atmos configurations from 5.1.2 to 7.1.4 with an existing home cinema system by adding a new overhead audio dimension to music and movie soundtracks. The Imagine XA comes complete with wall mount bracket and anti-slip strips and will be available in March 2016 at a U.S. MSRP of $499 per pair.

“Dolby Atmos is currently available in over 60 AV receiver models and more than 30 Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker designs including soundbars, with PSB Imagine XA being the newest,” said Brett Crockett, vice president, sound technology research and development, Dolby.

At ISE, Dolby delivered a height experience using the PSB Imagine XA speaker modules.

Working with Dolby, and using acoustic research from the Canadian National Research Council, PSB developed the Imagine XA with a precise frequency and directivity response to match Dolby’s specs. Custom-designed drivers were created for the Imagine XA to meet the Dolby standard. The tweeters are titanium dome with ferrofluid cooling and a neodymium magnet structure. Woofers are clay/ceramic reinforced injection molded polypropylene cones. The crossover design and wave-guide grille dial the Imagine XA into the specified Dolby Atmos target function. Speaker terminals are five-way gold plated binding posts.
