Transformative Engineering Offers HDS-42AVR HDMI Switcher Full UHD4K Now Works with Legacy AVRs/Processors By RS Staff Published: February 5, 2018 ⋅ Updated: April 15, 2019 Transformative Engineering is now offers a new HDMI switcher that it says incorporates many advanced technologies to accomplish switching and distribution of four HDMI Ultra High Definition 4K sources to two outputs. One output of the HDS-42AVR is full-resolution UHD4K featuring 60Hz refresh rate, 4:4:4 color, 18.2 Gbps bandwidth and supports all current audio formats such as Dolby True HD and DTS Master. The second HDMI output is designed to present full audio formats of the selected input, but with muted video (720p sync only). In addition, this audio signal, carried over HDMI, is presented with HDMI1.4 and HDCP1.4 versions that will allow connection to a previous generation audio/video processor or AVR. The application design for this product is to allow multiple (up to four) HDMI2.0 sources utilizing HDCP2.2 to be fully enjoyed with a current UHD4K display capable of handling HDCP2.2, while transferring the Audio Only portion of the source to the Audio playback system, which is not capable of handling the HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 signals. Without this device, one would not be able to listen to the higher level audio streams that are only available from the HDMI signal path. In fact, attempting to connect any HDMI2.0 signal (audio or video) into a legacy AVR/Processor will yield no output to the display or speakers. An installer can integrate the operation of the HDS-42AVR via IR and RS232. Packaged with a remote control for programming purposes, the MSRP is $449. “Up until the introduction of the HDS-42AVR,” said Jay Trieber, president of Transformative Engineering. “The only available solution was to replace the client’s legacy AVR or surround processor.”
