ADA Readies Amp for Flat-Panel TVs

High-end audio supplier Audio Design Associates (ADA) will go to this week's Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Line Show to launch the $799-suggested Ramp-PM Room Amp, which connects to stereo speakers and passive soundbars to improve the sound quality of flat-panel TVs.

High-end audio supplier Audio Design Associates (ADA) will go to this week’s Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Line Show to launch the $799-suggested Ramp-PM Room Amp, which connects to stereo speakers and passive soundbars to improve the sound quality of flat-panel TVs.

The 2×30-watt amp is 8 inches by 8 inches by 2 inches in size to fit behind TVs.

The Ramp-PM features analog audio inputs, but because many TVs no longer offer analog audio outputs, the Ramp-PM adds digital inputs and decoding of Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM soundtracks, the company said.

“The Ramp-PM’s ability to down-mix complex multichannel signals to stereo is a critical design feature because one can encounter multiple types of bit streams even when just flipping through TV channels,” said Albert Langella, ADA’s president and chief design engineer.
