Jeff Coombs, Founder of James Loudspeakers and Ambisonic Systems, Passes Away

Had over 54 years of experience in the design of professional and high-end loudspeakers, specializing in ribbon-line arrays.

Consumer electronics business icon Jeff Coombs has passed away. Coombs is best known as the founder of two iconic electronics brands — James Loudspeaker and Ambisonic Systems. He was president of Ambisonic Sales at Origin Acoustics. Coombs died on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Palm Desert, Calif., after a battle with cancer surrounded by family who loved and adored him. He was 69 years old.

Coombs founded James Loudspeakers in 1999 and Ambisonic Systems in 2009. Ambisonic Systems was purchased by Origin Acoustics in 2020 and specializes in high-output, audiophile-quality sound reinforcement loudspeakers. Coombs had over 54 years of experience in the design of professional and high-end loudspeakers, specializing in ribbon-line arrays. He is listed as the inventor on many patents. His company and speakers are known for innovative concepts, breakthrough technology and amazing sound. More importantly, Coombs was one of the most positive and happy-go-lucky feel-good people you could ever meet.

Coombs and his family are long-time residents of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. They helped build the city and centered their lives and businesses there. He had a deep love for the community and will be missed by many in that small city.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his two stepchildren, Tyler Rossetti and Ashley Rossetti-Belton; his brother, Jay Coombs; his sister Diana Coombs; his two nieces Ivory and Nicole Marinakis; and a grandniece, Haylee; along with many relatives, friends, and all the admirers of the person he was and the products that he built.
