Q&A with Cory Sorice, chief innovation officer and SVP at Masonite.
Why CEDIA Expo 2022?
These past few years, people’s expectations of their homes have evolved — we are asking our residential spaces to do a lot more for us than before. At Masonite, we are creating doors that do more, as well. As technology becomes more integrated into daily life, we are extending that innovation to the front door, with Masonite M-Pwr Smart Doors. As the only show dedicated to residential tech, the CEDIA Expo is the perfect fit to show the industry how Masonite is providing solutions for smart homes. We are solving for issues like device battery life design continuity and tech compatibility. Integrating power and internet connectivity into the door is key to this, and we believe it will become the standard for every front door. We’re thrilled to showcase this powerful innovation at CEDIA.
What is the most exciting trend you expect to see at the show?
One of the most exciting trends that we are currently seeing in the smart home industry is a greater focus on integration and simplicity in home technology. As the concept of the smart home continues to evolve, homeowners are expecting a more unified experience with a distinct focus on whole-home control. We are also seeing a trend in homeowners looking for new technology and innovations in the space to not only add function to their homes, but also meaningful value in their lives. At Masonite, we like to say that we innovate around compelling use cases, so that each technological component that we introduce in our products has a direct tie to what matters most to homeowners, creating smart homes that work harder without unnecessary complexity.
What will you focus on at the show?
At this year’s show, we are excited to showcase our Masonite M-Pwr Smart Doors, the first to employ patent-pending, Underwriters Laboratories (UL certified) technology to connect exterior doors to a home’s electrical system and wireless internet network. The fully powered system provides reliable “always on” smart technology and lighting, as well as an integrated backup battery, smartphone app, LED welcome lighting, Ring Video Doorbell, Yale Home smart lock, and more.
With the launch of the first generation of M-Pwr Smart Doors, we are excited to be a part of an innovative step forward in the smart home space. We believe this integration of power and connectivity will create expanded capabilities for homeowners, bringing to life our vision of transforming what people can expect their doors to do, as we continue to innovate and deliver doors that do more.
