Nakamichi expands its DRAGON line with the introduction of a 12-inch subwoofer. The 80-pound beast, packing a long-throw 12-inch carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum driver and a 12-inch carbon passive radiator, delivers up to 750 watts of sonic boom. The updated flagship DRAGON system, now armed with four 12-inch subwoofers, unleashes tidal waves of bass energy that will leave even the most die-hard low-frequency aficionados in awe.
DRAGON’s alternative subwoofer configurations include dual enclosures featuring either 12-inch drivers or dual-opposing 8-inch drivers. Additionally, modular expansion options enable customers to mix and match up to four subwoofer cabinets with their systems.
The Nakamichi DRAGON 11.4.6 is one of the world’s most ambitious plug-and-play wireless surround sound systems, featuring 21 channels, 15 digital amplifiers, wireless quad subwoofers, six upfiring speakers, and a pair of Omni-Motion Reference Surrounds. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Pro technology.
Nakamichi recognized the desire among current DRAGON owners for bass that shatters the limitations of plug-and-play cinema systems. To gain deeper insights, the Nakamichi team conducted a survey to explore the preferred bass configurations of owners and fans.
Survey findings:
- 67% of respondents prefer a subwoofer with a 12-inch or larger driver.
- 41% prefer having three or more subwoofers in their room.
The DRAGON 12-inch subwoofer’s high-performance design delivers depths as low as 19 Hz. The star of the show is the 12-inch driver, which boasts a lightweight and durable aerospace-grade aluminum cone. The aluminum construction maximizes the subwoofer cone’s sensitivity and responsiveness, allowing it to accurately reproduce mid-bass and extreme low-frequency effects with authority.
To generate precise yet authoritative deep bass, a wafer-thin layer of carbon fiber is laminated to the back of the subwoofer’s aluminum cone. This premium material’s high stiffness-to-weight ratio makes it the perfect damping counterpart for the driver to embrace impactful and instantaneous pulses without unwanted resonance.
The same subwoofer enclosure houses a meticulously calibrated long-throw 12-inch passive radiator. This radiator sports a carbon-infused cone, enhancing its rigidity for impeccable bass precision. With its down-firing projection, the subwoofer sends bass waves rippling throughout the whole theater space, amplifying tactile bass sensations.
