OSD Audio has announced the release of its PS88 8-inch Powered Subwoofer with dual woofer design.
The PS88 8-inch Powered Subwoofer features a dual woofer design.
The unique front-firing sub uses a Heavy Duty 8-inch Long Throw woofer and passive radiator that work together to improve low frequency performance in a smaller enclosure size. Measuring at just over 10 x 11 x 10 inches, the PS88 gives home theater enthusiasts bass with more placement flexibility.
“The PS88 produces extra punch and still maintains excellent dynamic response,” said Tim Leahy, general manager and product specialist at OSD Audio. “We’ll stand this sub up against much more expensive and much larger ported designs. That’s how good is.”
According to Leahy, most home theater designs focus on the bottom boom of the bass which can be stiff and artificial sounding. “That’s fine if you’re watching a movie with heavy bass but not ideal for other movie scenes or listening to music,” Leahy said. “This powerful subwoofer design features a unique dual 8-inch woofer (one active, the second one acting as a passive radiator) to create the bass response faster and tighter compared to subwoofers with much larger enclosures. Push this sub as far as you want, you won’t hear muddy bass.”
Weighing in at 16 pounds, OSD Audio also credits the PS88’s diminutive size and price point to the 180-Watt Class D amplifier that delivers Class AB performance with higher energy efficiency and less cost to the manufacturer. Other features include volume/gain control knob, and 0 to 180 degree variable phase control knob input, signal level RCA and speaker level for when pre-amp level not available. The PS88 includes a multi-layered piano lacquer finish and an MSRP of $299.95.
